DESCRIPTION

Our Alfalfa Nibbles are a delicious natural forage treat that small animals simply love. Made from dried alfalfa, including both nutritious leaves and stems, these crunchy nibbles are packed with natural goodness and provide a tasty way to add variety to your little ones' diet.

Naturally rich in fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals, alfalfa has long been valued as a nutritious forage for rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. With naturally occurring vitamins A, C, E and K, along with calcium, iron and potassium, Alfalfa Nibbles offer a concentrated source of nutrition in every handful. It is also a source of saponins, reputed to support cholesterol reduction and is also a diuretic.

Their high fibre content helps support normal digestive function and contributes to dental health by encouraging natural chewing behaviours. Alfalfa is also particularly useful for young and elderly animals, where additional nutritional and bone support may be beneficial.

Many owners find alfalfa especially tempting during periods of recovery or reduced appetite, thanks to its appealing aroma and flavour. Because alfalfa is naturally high in calcium and protein, we recommend feeding it as an occasional forage treat for healthy adult animals. It is worth noting we would not recommend Alfalfa in any form to those with bladder or kidney issues due to this high calcium. Our Animal Medicines Advisor is on hand to offer advice on this if you have any concerns.

Although commonly referred to as a hay, alfalfa (also known as lucerne) is actually a member of the legume family. Like other legumes, such as peas, it is naturally rich in protein and provides a concentrated source of nutrients, making it a valuable addition to the diets of many small animals.

Product benefits:
  • Rich in calcium to support normal bone health
  • Source of iron and potassium
  • Naturally contains antioxidants
  • High fibre content for digestive wellbeing
  • Provides quality plant-based protein
Pack size: 170g

Ingredients: Dried Alfalfa, including stem & leaves

Typical Analysis: Crude fibre 31.3%, crude protein 18.7%

Feeding guide: Feed as an occasional treat for adult animals and offer alongside their usual diet. Alfalfa Nibbles can be sprinkled over food, mixed into forage blends, added to hay, or fed on their own as a tasty reward. Growing youngsters and senior pets may benefit from additional alfalfa due to its naturally high nutritional value and calcium content, which can help support healthy growth and bone maintenance. However, it is important that meadow hay and/or timothy hay remain the primary forage source. For young animals, alfalfa should gradually be reduced to a treat forage from around six months of age to encourage good hay consumption as they mature into adulthood.
