Please note that although this straw is branded as being 'unchopped', it is mechanically cut to a chop length that facilitates automatic bagging. If you require a longer straw length, we'd recommend Deans Straw.

Pillow Wad Barley Straw is commonly used as soft, natural bedding for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and other small animals. Its warm, insulating fibres make it ideal for nesting, burrowing, and creating a cosy sleeping area.

Is Pillow Wad Barley Straw safe for rabbits and guinea pigs?

Yes. Pillow Wad Barley Straw is safe for rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets. It is dust‑extracted to help reduce respiratory irritation and provides a comfortable, natural bedding option suitable for sensitive animals.

What makes Pillow Wad Barley Straw different from hay?

Straw and hay serve different purposes:

Straw is typically used for bedding because it’s warmer, more hollow, and softer for nesting.
Hay is used as food because it provides essential fibre.

Pillow Wad Barley Straw is not intended as a main food source, but pets may naturally nibble small amounts.

Can barley straw help keep my pet warm?

Yes. Barley straw has naturally insulating fibres, making it excellent for warmth in colder months. It traps heat effectively, helping small pets stay cosy in winter.

Is Pillow Wad Barley Straw suitable for outdoor enclosures?

Absolutely. Pillow Wad Barley Straw is ideal for outdoor and indoor enclosures. Its insulating properties help protect small animals against cold weather, especially when used alongside additional bedding materials like hay.

How often should I replace barley straw bedding?

Straw bedding should typically be replaced at least once a week, or more often if it becomes damp or soiled. Regular changes help maintain a clean, hygienic environment for your pets.

Is Pillow Wad Barley Straw environmentally friendly?

Yes. Pillow Wad’s barley straw is UK‑grown, sustainably farmed, and packed in biodegradable bags. Therefore keeping transport miles low and supporting eco‑friendly small‑pet care.
