Ask about Hay Taster Box
We are pleased to offer our Taster Selection Box - a sample box of 6 different types of hay for your little ones to test. This collection offers both great value for money and a wide range of very different hay types.
We all know how difficult it can be to decide whether to 'risk' buying a new hay or not. Will my little ones like it? Is it dusty? It's a bit expensive, is it worth the money? And will they eat it?? Do they like chunky coarse hay? Short bits? Seed heads? Leafy green bits?
Over the years we have realised those best to answer these questions are our little ones, and not us. Yes, of course we can tell if a hay smells bad, or is really dusty or full of nasty bits. But could we tell the difference between a good hay and a really great hay from a four legged perspective? We can have a good guess ... but our little ones really know!
And how many times have you bought a hay which you though looked really good, only to find your little ones refuse to eat it? Ours have literally turned their backs on a few hays we have offered in the past. Or even flung the hay around with total disgust!
The Taster Selection Box contains a generous handful of 6 different types of hay, focussing on the following key hay features to help you determine where your little ones' preferences may lie:-
* Coarse timothy hay
* Rich & leafy hay
* Longer stranded meadow hay
* Thin/softer meadow hay
* Grain-based hay
* Hay with inclusions (added herbs or flowers)
As the cut of some hays and grasses can change through the year, we focus on the key features of the hay, rather than specific brands - but we're happy to include a specific hay if you have a preference. Please just let us know when you order.
In addition to the above hays, we will include a sample of food for either rabbits or guinea pigs and some other goodies too.
If you prefer a Taster Box without food (pellet) samples, or you're buying for an animal other than those specified, select 'Other Animal' - you'll get the same great hays but without food samples.
Please note we may substitute one of the above at any time, but rest assured we will always ensure there are at six very different yummy hays and a selection of yummy herby things for your little ones to sample.
And when your Taster Pack arrives, open from the top (label side) so you can see the hay identification labels and handy QR codes for ease of ordering if your little ones approve!

Shared by pet owners who care
Customers praised this taster box as an excellent way to discover pet preferences without waste. Pets loved the fresh, high-quality variety including green oat and wheat hay. One customer said: "the best hay samples I've seen." Ideal for fussy eaters, though one noted their desired variety wasn't included. Generous portions and eco-friendly packaging impressed shoppers.
- He was munching on this hay like it was the best thing he's ever tasted
- Excellent selection of Really Fresh and Crunchy Hays
- All so fresh! My bun loved trying the different hays
These are the best hay samples I've seen so far. I did order samples from different stores in the past and my fussy rabbit did not want to eat any of them. Instead of eating hay, he plays with it. I tried everything and nothing was ever good enough for him. So after his 3rd dental procedure I was searching again, found these samples and ordered them as my last hope. I was shocked to see that he was munching on this hay like it was the best thing he's ever tasted. If you have a rabbit that does not want to eat hay - do not hesitate and order this taster box.
Love this just opened up and popped on the floor. My bunnies seemed to eat the favourite hays enabling me to know what to buy them next 🐇
Such a wonderful thing to be able to get to see what your bun prefers. Obviously 90% of it was consumed but there were a few clear favourites.
My chinchilla jumped straight in and started eating the green oat hay so quickly we had to remove the box! A lovely selection and i think we have a clear winner for a favourite!
I’m very happy with the taster box, unfortunately the one I was looking for wasn’t among the ones I got
My 2 bunnies Ronnie and Reggie love the hay box and the herb box xx
A great way to see what my bunny likes without worrying about waste. A good selection of hard and soft hay and also nice as a supplement to the main hay to add interest so you dont have to have lots of bags.
Variety of hay for my house bunnies to try
This gave me a chance to see what my bunny loved and how fresh and green the hay was definitely ordering again
I love to give my rabbit a bit of variety especially when it comes to hay.
I did try the trick of putting the box down to see what was a favorite but they all had equal visits over time.
Guess I'll just switch it up each order.
The little samples were a great touch too, she liked both the foraging tasters, so will definitely be back for those.
As always, excellent customer service, excellent products....so glad to have found The Hay Experts. I can't recommend the company highly enough. Prompt and friendly service, prompt delivery.
The taster boxes are very much appreciated by my piggies. There's always a favourite hay but they enjoy just eating from the box(and nibbling the box).
Excellent selection of Really Fresh and Crunchy Hays. I was over the moon and astonished to measure a strand of Wheat Hay at 18inches long! It lasted my elderly, little chinchilla all evening. This Taster Selection Box is perfect for a fussy chinchilla, I shall continue to order them. Very happy to RECOMMEND, get stuck in and discover your beloved gnawer's real favourite.
The taster selection pack is such a good idea to try your rabbit on different hays, of course my rabbit's liked them all so I purchased a bag of assorted hay's for them.
This is a great opportunity to test out possible new foods with fussy eaters. It saves on buying larger bags/bales and then finding out the rascal won't eat it! There were also some extra small samples that were fun to try. I was pleased to find some samples he liked. As expected, there were a few he wasn't into but the quantity was plenty to try without wasting big quantities of food. Also, the actual sample bags weren't plastic which was welcome.
Good product but I am afraid it didn't help me decide which hay to buy as my bunny not much of a hay eater but may keep buying taster pack as it gives him plenty choice
The sample box is a brilliant way of testing which products suit our 2 elderly rabbits before buying a full size bag. Excellent variety included
my bun loved trying the different hays, it let me decide which hay he really loved and ones he wasn't bothered with without having to buy a whole bag of the stuff. so so pleased with the whole package, I got so many free little samples! thank you, will definitely order from you again
The lady I spoke to was really helpful. She advised on the hay which would help my bunny with dental problems.
It was really good to be able to try out all the different hats for my fussy bunny. It was great getting the tester packs of pellets too as my bunny is a rescue who came to me on museli and Im fed up of my buying big bags of nuggets that she wont eat! Ive now found a hay and a new pellet for her!
Ive tried both the guinea pig and rabbit taster pack for my pets and they all love it. Grey to find out what hay they prefer!
Hay is fresh and good quality. A decent sample of each hay sent. Bunnies loved it.
This was exactly what we needed to find out which type of hay our fussy bunny likes! Rather then spending lots of money and wasting lots of hay, these small tester bags were perfect. We opened each bag and straight away our fussy bunny went straight to her favourite!
My bunny felt thoroughly spoilt munching through all these. Some he liked , some he wasnt so keen on so I knew what to buy for him.Probably the bunny equivalent of wine tasting
Neo loved the selection of hay, grasses and pellets that we've received in this taster selection pack, we'll be definitely purchasing more from this page!
As Pros
A great selection of hays, I bought them to see if my bun would like them before I bought a bigger bag. Good size portions. My bun has enjoyed trying them all.
As above
Wonderful idea
Great range at a great price!
I would try it again in the summer.
